Watercolor and Gouache Geometric White Metal and Diamond Pendant Rendering

Today’s rendering is one I did a few years ago while on tour with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.  This was done free hand since I only had paintbrushes, watercolors and paper with me.  Again, this design combines my love of open space as a design feature, as well as my frequent use of geometric elements.  I also imagined the 3 components in this piece (center diamond, middle rectangle and outer diamond rectangle) to have movement within the structure of the bail.

In my recent travels (always a good place to people- and jewelry-watch), I noticed several women wearing lovely, eye-catching diamond pendants.  I was dismayed to see in each case that these were paired with dingy white crew-neck tee-shirts.  I know that being casual is considered hip, but neither the neckline nor the flimsy white cotton fabric played up the beauty of this jewelry.  A pendant like the one above would look really spectacular against bare skin showing through a V-neck shirt, a collared shirt, or even better paired with an elegant wrap or cocktail dress.

Some of my favorite style icons?  Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Catherine Deneuve and Michelle Pfeiffer.
