Today’s rendering theme was again one of my husband’s ideas.    He suggested that I do a reindeer-inspired design; I laughed off the idea.  But then I got to thinking about my next visit to NY and how much I’m looking forward to seeing the exhibit of Madeleine Albright’s collection of brooches on display at the Museum of Arts and Design.  Apparently, this display houses over 200 of her favorite brooches – brooches that she chose carefully from her collection each day to reflect and project her mood.

I decided that if Madeleine Albright can have over 200 brooches, then I can design some more of my own.  I started by sketching a deer (this one has antlers so it qualifies as a reindeer):

Then I played around with designs that were inspired by the deer.  While my sketches initially started out as more representative of the deer, I finally settled on this sketch:

From here it was on to painting with watercolors.  Here is the finished brooch:
