In rendering the glass face of yesterday’s Snow Maiden Brooch, I was disappointed that I couldn’t successfully achieve the realistic translucent effect I was after by using very diluted watercolor pigment on black paper. Any subsequent layering of paint just seemed to “cloud” the effect. I decided to create another translucent piece, this time using a combination of colored pencil and watercolors. I think the translucency of the glass donut is more successful here:
I’ll be experimenting more with rendering translucent glass in future designs. Stay tuned!
