Yesterday I got a second wind around 11:30 p.m. and starting working on my blog post. I got so engrossed with writing and processing my thoughts, that when I somehow accidentally lost the post and had to reconstruct it from a previous auto-save draft, I didn’t notice time passing. Yesterday’s post therefore got posted at 12:17 a.m., officially not YESTERDAY but TODAY!
That’s both bad and good news. If you’ve been following my year-long Design a Day project from the beginning, you’ll know that until yesterday I hadn’t missed a day of posting a design. Bad because I let myself down (although more on a technicality than from laziness or lack of trying.) Good because 249 days in, I was still so engrossed by what I was doing that I lost track of time!
Which leads me to share my progress so far with the Empire Building Kit I started 8 days ago. I’m keeping up with the daily assignments and have been taking notes for myself in an online journal. While I’ve already done lots of out-of-the-box thinking over the last few years with regards to my jewelry design business, the EBK assignments at this point are confirmation that I’ve been thinking about the right things. One important lesson I’ve learned is the concept of the saturation effect – understanding how trust is built online and learning to be in more than one place at a time. I think this applies away from cyberspace, too. In effect, having stick-to-it-ness and continually putting yourself out there, will bring other people with similar interests to you.
What’s the tried and true recipe for stick-to-it-ness?
Be passionate about what you do. Only true passion will sustain your interest and motivate you to be disciplined to go the extra (many extra) miles!
Sticking with my passion, here is my design for today:
