Today’s Design A Day Rendering – Day 323 – is significant since 323 is a palindrome. Its also significant because 323 days into my project of posting a new design for 365 consecutive days, I’m still learning and being excited by new techniques.
As many of you know, for my “quick” renderings I’ve used colored pencil with white gouache highlights. Today, after spending about 4 hours working on a different design (I’m not ready to unveil it yet, but I can tell you that it will be available soon as part of a collection of new products I’m developing), I needed to concoct something quick for my design for the day.
I did this rendering on vellum paper, but did it entirely with gouache paint (not my usual colored pencil/gouache combination.) As I was rendering the earring, I realized that I was using the techniques that monks in the 13th century used when creating their illuminated manuscripts! This earring, therefore, is a tribute to a “coming full-circle” of sorts. Its also proof that nothing is new – only imagination sets us apart. Enjoy!
