Tonight’s diamond Lotus Pendant design is maybe not the most original design. However, I was more interested in experimenting both with using only gouache paint on vellum paper, AND trying out a new technique for rendering the diamonds. Interestingly, this diamond rendering technique is actually simpler than what I’ve been doing in the past, and the effect is maybe even more brilliant. Plus, it takes less time…which in my book is also
brilliant!
Basically, I’ve rendered the diamonds by painting a circular outline of the basic shape using a very pale grey gouache paint over a darker grey ground. Then I’ve added the illusion of a raised table to the gemstone with just one dot of pure white gouache paint per gemstone. The icing on the cake is tiny strategically-placed white gouache “x” marks in the upper left of the diamond, finished with dots on either side of the diamond to suggest bead setting.
The result?
A feast for the eyes, and another fun technique to add to my arsenal!
