Pen and pastel self-portrait by Joana Miranda

I’m having a lot of fun studying drawing techniques in a book I recently purchased –  Big Book of Fashion Illustration.   Today’s self-portrait was inspired by the techniques of one of the artists featured in the book.  I did this illustration using ink and pastel.

I’d love to hear what you think!

Está bem bonita, mas parece-se mais com a prima Lena, filha da prima Palmira, e mulher do Carlos, lembras-te?

      Hi Ma,

I showed Tom the design and he wrote back and said, “too life-like” and “needs more FANTASY.” His feeling is that people will try to spend too much time trying to figure out who it is, or who it looks like to them. I guess you’ve proved his point!

I don’t remember Lena (except for the “other” Lena). I’m going to go over to Tom’s place next week to see his new book on Erte.

Can’t wait to see you soon!
      Love,
      J

      Ola Pedro,

Mostrei o meu desenho a um amigo que e um “licensed artist.” Ele disse que o desenho precisa de mais fantasia – he said that it is too “life-like” and that people will spend time trying to figure out who it is (or who it reminds them of.) An interesting and valid point.

So back to the drawing board:-)

      Ate ja –
      Joana
