Muito obrigada, Pedro! Ontem o meu marido e eu fomos para o restaurante Alfama em Nova Iorque para comprar pao e pasteis de nata! Yes, there is ONE authentically Portuguese restaurant here. The prices are high, and the pasteis de nata – while tasty – are on the small side. Even so, it’s nice to have a “taste of home” just across Central Park.
Here is the link to Alfama in New York. We’ve eaten there twice in the past when they were at their old location…haven’t yet had a meal at this new location. http://www.alfamanyc.com/
To my knowledge, this is the only Portuguese restaurant in Manhattan. However, just across the river in New Jersey (in the Iron Bound District), there is a apparently a large Portuguese community. I need to go there and investigate!
