Since moving to New York City a year ago, I have found myself surrounded by an amazing number of talented and generous friends. This post is a tribute to them and to what they do.
Meet Tom Cathey…
my frequent companion on adventures around the city. A successful licensed artist with an incredible eye and great sense for design, Tom has been my mentor, friend and camera buddy. He documents his daily adventures in New York on his amusing and popular blog Tom’s Eye View.
Meet Lauren Bergman…
a woman who wears many artistic hats. She’s a talented painter, successful jewelry designer, and a savvy businesswoman. Most recently, she’s branched out to create her own jewelry line Aroc Urtu. See her paintings here.
Meet Luis da Cruz…
who hails from my native Portugal. Luis is a successful architect, interior designer, artist and all-around creative person. His generous spirit is coupled with a curiosity for new people and new experiences. You can learn more about him here.
Meet Maceo W. Mitchell…
a high school pal of Tom Cathey (see above) and husband of artist Patricia J. Wynne (see below), Maceo is a very talented artist in his own right. From watercolor or pastels to black and white drawings, his artwork is vibrant and always interesting. Visit his website here.
Meet Lauren Pipkorn…
who is as comfortable creating exquisite hand-rendered jewelry designs as designing jewelry with CAD (computer aided design.) She has created designs for Harry Winston, Tiffany & C0. and Vera Wang among others, and teaches CAD at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In her spare time you might find her practicing her Swing steps on the dance floor or working on her Montana property – just one of the 3 places she calls home – with her very own excavator. Learn more about Lauren here.
Meet Raphael Sanchez…
who lives in the building next door to me. His charming, old-world graciousness can be seen in the elegant one-of-a-kind designer handbags he creates. I’m saving up to buy my favorite! See a sampling of his work here.
Meet Karen Santry…
a contemporary fine arts painter, fashion illustrator and Associate Professor of Art at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The stylish flair in her work is reflected in her own fabulous sense of personal style. Karen could be an artwork on her own! Take a look here.
(And, last but not least)
Meet Patricia J. Wynne…
an award-winning artist and freelance illustrator. Her sense of composition and impeccable technique reveals an inquisitive and intelligent mind. On a recent outing with Patricia to Jane’s Carousel in Dumbo, Brooklyn, I learned a wealth of facts about carousels and carousel horses – another of her passions. You can see her work here.
