Because being home with my mom is always a good thing!
A paper lantern glows against house plants (my mom has a very green thumb) on the kitchen table…
While homemade cinnamon buns for tomorrow morning are rising on the stove…
And my dad (in a much younger incarnation) joins us from his perch on the window sill.
Beautiful memories of home- esp. having your dad there…..
Hi Mrs. Kountoupes,
Thanks so much for your nice comment! I am back at home in NYC now, but thought of you this week as we enjoyed time with my mom in Oberlin. Even though it was a little on the too cold side for all of us, I still managed to get out for a few long walks along Morgan Street and around town. I hope you are doing well!
A big hug, Joana

Wow, there is true heart in your family and family hearth. Lovely photos Joana. Nice to see a photo of your father.
Thanks so much, Susan! My father is in my thoughts every day. I take after him physically – and it’s even easier to see the resemblance in those younger pictures of him. (I’m also always amazed at the beautiful quality of the old black and white photos! In this case, that photo of my father is actually an ID photo on an old Lisbon train pass.)
Hope your year is off to a great start. I’ve been enjoying seeing your abstract canvases very much!

Yes, there certainly is a resemblance to your father!
Hi Pam,
I never believed it when people commented on my resemblance to my father, but now that I’m older I do see it (and the resemblance is even more obvious in the young photos of my father.) I also resemble his mother, too. My sister takes after more of my mom’s side of the family, although she also has touches of my dad, too.
How are things going? Are all your house woes now behind you?
