This week I found myself sketching men instead of women…for no other reason except that there seemed to be more interesting men than women on my subway commutes.  The following sketches were all done on Saturday…which also happened to be the day that I played two shows at Lincoln Center.  Exhausting, yes.  But nice in that the “back and forth” on the subway gave me more sketching time than usual.

On my first trip down to the theater, I noticed a group of sailors in my subway car (Fleet Week 2015 wraps up tomorrow).  Although we only overlapped for one stop, I was able to do this partial sketch…

Later in the evening I captured this fine specimen!

What’s next?  Well, since I did the above sketch on the last page of my current sketchbook, I’m excited to be starting a brand new sketch book this week.  Better yet, my new sketchbook promises bleed-proof pages.  I’m excited to try it out.  Hope you’ll stay tuned…

      Hi Helen,

Yes, I do feel like I’m getting more comfortable with quick sketching…AND that my style is getting more defined! My latest illustration (which I’ll post later today) is also proof of that…

More to come. xox – Joana
