Up here in the backwoods of New Hampshire there are few humans to sketch, not to mention that my mom put the kibosh this morning on my doing any further portraits of her. Could it be that she didn’t like the quick doodle/sketch I did of her last night on our Scrabble score card?
Whatever the case, I’ve had to draw for inspiration from the artwork and photos around the cabin. Here is an oil portrait of my beautiful mother from when she was about 6 years old…
And the pen sketch I did inspired by the painting.
To be fair, I also decided to do an ink sketch based on an old photograph of myself from my college days. Here I am with violin…not to mention plumper and grinning ear to ear.
And my (rather hairy) ink rendition.
These are nice! You don’t look much different from your college days. I can see why your mother has sort of had enough.
Hi Helen,
Well thank you! I have more wrinkles, a skinnier face and a few gray hairs…and the violin has been substituted for a viola. Plus, I think I’m smarter now (but that’s what 20+ years of living will do, right?)
