And yes, the pun’s intended!

I sketched this woman travelling with her suitcase, purse and a plastic bag on the C Train this week.  And I could relate since I spent most of the week riding trains with my viola strapped to my back, my purse on my arm and often an umbrella in tow, too!

      Hi Denise,

I didn’t realize that you had lived in the city. When did you move away? I have yet to get to Long Beach, LI or even to the Hamptons…one of these days!

      🙂 Joana

      • Hi Joana… I was born in Manhattan, and moved to City Island which is located in the Bronx, my working years were in midtown Manhattan, best years of my life… My husband and I were always in the city only a half hour away! My husband as well always worked in the city.

  2. Joana… Did not really fully answer your question… My growing up years were on City Island, which by the way is a very artsy place to live… My 2 very dearest friends were artists just like you, so yes I do have an appreciation for artists! I moved to Florida 23 years ago, but still consider myself a New York Gal!! Lol. I enjoy all your sketching tremendously so please keep them coming… 😘 Denise

      Hi Denise,

So nice to learn more about you! Before we moved to NYC (in 2010) I always had a bit of wanderlust. Living more than 3 or 4 years in a place felt too long. But now that we’re here, I would hate to move away. Or, if we did move, I would want it to be to some place that had something truly spectacular to offer…maybe Santa Fe? In any case, as you know, NYC offers so many diverse opportunities which really make up for the challenges. I love what I do and that living here allows me to wear so many “hats.”

I am looking forward to more sketching and drawing time now that the NYC Ballet season is winding down. And hopefully, I’ll be able to get out to more interesting places with my camera, too!

Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂 Joana

      • Hi Joana… I wanted to give a review on the cards I purchased from you, but somehow could not locate where? Well anyway I just love them!!! So well made and the coloring on them is just fab!!! I will be purchasing more in the very near future because I just love interesting and pretty cards and your’s hit the mark! Have a great weekend and I do so appreciate you answering me all the time… Looking forward to your new sketches! 😉

          Hi Denise,

You are so lovely and kind! I believe that Etsy doesn’t let you review purchases immediately – that you have to wait probably a week or so after you’ve received your order before you can leave feedback. I think this is a new policy on Etsy. This link should provide some helpful information: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/102 (If you can wait a few more days before trying to leave a review again, I’d be obviously very grateful for any feedback you choose to leave.)

I am having a very nice weekend, especially since today is my birthday! I’ve been showered with lots of nice treats, calls from family and friends, and – unexpectedly – the entire day off! Plus, the weather cooperated and it was sunny and 77 degrees. I couldn’t ask for a nicer day and a nicer birthday. 🙂

I hope you have a great weekend! Joana

          • Happy Birthday Joana and many more!!! Yes you are right about the reviews… Forgot that you do have to wait… Well anyway enjoy the rest of your birthday and may you have a wonderful year ahead! 🎈🎉. Oh and by the way my granddaughter Valentina loves your sketches, she just turned 12 on May 4th. 😌 Denise

Thanks so much, Denise! We wrapped up my birthday celebration with a lovely lunch out today (too busy on the day to do much more than open a boxed dinner from Trader Joe’s). 🙂 I’m glad your granddaughter – a fellow Taurus – likes my sketches! Maybe she’ll be inspired to draw, too?

Hope you are well and that you have a great week!
