Cute! I have to wonder if this expression will eventually be lost on younger generations. It’s almost our parents’ generation who would have had the experience of “giving at the office”. I don’t know if I’ve even done it, except maybe for giving to a political campaign for which I had been volunteering.

      Hi Helen,

I think a lot is lost on the younger generations for sure (like what a stamp is for, or how to use snail mail!) Perhaps as musicians we haven’t encountered as much of the “giving at the office” as other professions do, but even at NYCB there are campaigns to give. The current one is a toy drive being put on by the wardrobe department. 🙂 Meanwhile, I just took another load of donations to Housing Works, the NYC Thrift store that benefits people living with HIV/AIDS. In an apartment as small as ours, you just can’t afford to have any extra stuff. I’m donating Andy next. Hee-hee!

Oh, now I get it! I had always imagined “giving at the office” as going to the office of that organization and writing a check there. So, it actually means giving at our workplace! I never knew….I guess because I don’t work in an office.

Meanwhile, I’m fuming (well only slightly) because I give to several charities, but instead of sending me a thank you letter they inundate me with repeated requests for MORE money. Manners, where have they gone?
