For those of you fans who also happen to be my musician friends, I know you understand the stress of preparing for an audition. And I know you’ll sympathize and be able to relate as I sit here scratching my head tonight after not having advanced in the audition I took today. It’s one thing to not advance after feeling like you didn’t play well…entirely another when you know you pretty much did your best (hence the head scratching!) Fortunately, I do have a very good network of supportive friends and family, and my imaginary friends (see below) are calling as well.
And, as I begin to pick up the pieces and get back to my creative endeavors, I’m inspired to share this piece of wisdom…
“There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.”
(Brene Brown)
Bummer. I hate when that happens, and it happens quite a bit. Auditions are just crazy.
Hi Helen,
It certainly does sting! I did my best, but obviously the audition committee was looking for something else.
Meanwhile, part of the irony is that with the current Principal out for the season and the Acting Principal also out with a recently injured wrist, I’ve been sitting Principal and will continue in that capacity this week. Exhausted doesn’t even begin to describe my state of mind…

Scratching your head is very normal in any career you are in… Unfortunately we sometimes get stuck and it is very frustrating… You hang in there Joana because you have many attributes than you can be proud of… You will be renewed soon❣ ❤ Denise

Hi Denise,
I so appreciate your kind words and sympathy! I just woke up from a much-needed nap, so I’m working on the “renewed part” (at least physically speaking) already.
