Actually, there was only ONE I really remember. Her name was Fernanda and she worked for my aunt in the little town of Algueirão outside Lisbon, Portugal. While we played with her daughter (who was close in age to me and my sister),
Fernanda cleaned…
And cooked.
By the way…
(She was pretty tolerant of our antics, but when we crossed the line, she’d come after us with her slipper.)
But at the end of the day…
there was always laughter and plenty of hugs!

Oh gosh I didn’t know she came after you like that. You must have driven her nuts….
I love it!!
Yes, indeedy. She wielded her “sheenella” at us more than once. (I think we totally deserved it, too!)
I’m glad you wear rubber Crocs…not that you’d ever wield them at me. Hee-hee. xox – J

Sounds like a tough customer! Great work!
Thanks, Helen! I wonder about Fernanda. Now that my aunt has passed away, I’m not sure how I’d get in touch with her. I don’t even think I ever knew her last name (and my mom has probably forgotten it, too.) But I could always ask my cousins…

Joana I love seeing what you are doing!
Thanks so much, Susan! That means a lot to me. I’ve been focusing a lot on business growth and trying (trying being the operative word) to get a handle on SEO. I think I’m making progress, but these past weeks the actual illustration work gets pushed ’til the very end of the night. In fact, last night I fell asleep on my pencil – only realized it in the middle of the night when I rolled over the pencil in bed.
I hope you are enjoying a lovely fall! Joana
