Little old lady walking down the street in Evora, Portugal

As I get older it’s probably not a surprise that I’m feeling increasingly nostalgic for memories that tie me to my childhood. These memories include places, smells, foods, and, of course people.

On our recent trip to Portugal I found myself often musing if my father or my favorite aunt (the only girl in his family of seven) had walked the same streets, or enjoyed the same sights.  And every so often, when I’d catch a glimpse of someone who bore a remarkable resemblance to one of my relatives, my heart would skip a beat…not to mention that the women with long, thin faces looking back at me made me feel like I was looking into a mirror!

So forgive this somewhat selfish trip down memory lane.  These are my Portuguese peeps…and who knows, maybe I AM related to all of them in some way or other.

Clowning around with my own shadow…after all, we’re only on this earth a short time so we might as well have some fun!

It certainly is! This weekend I’m rekindling Oberlin memories since we’re here visiting my mom.:-) The peace and quiet is just the thing to refresh us before the winter season starts up in NYC. I hope you are well and that your 2019 is off to a great start! xox – Joana
