This week I’m taking a much needed rest and kicking back on the family “farm” in Oberlin, Ohio.
Ok, my mom’s house is not exactly a farm, but since my duties include feeding the neighbor’s chickens…
Collecting their eggs…
And caring for my mom’s Siamese kitten, Puck…
it does feel like a bit like I’m returning to the farm! Maybe because of this, I’ve been inspired to be a bit of a “domestic Goddess,” baking cookies and putting those fresh eggs to good use! (I used Downshiftology’s recipe for the deviled eggs below.)
In fact, even my husband (and Puck) have gotten into the cooking spirit, too!
Ah, vacation!
P.S. The deviled egg recipe made me hanker to make more, so if any of you have family favorite recipes for deviled eggs with a twist, I’d love to hear!
Great photos! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your nice comment! I’m glad you enjoyed my recent photos. 🙂 Joana
I do have a great recipe book for deviled eggs (which you gave me!), but it’s in Goose Pond. (Sigh). Looks like you managed just fine! Glad the girls rewarded you so richly. Xox
Hi Mm, Yes, I looked for that cookbook but couldn’t find it. The next deviled eggs I’m going to make will be with avocado filling. Mmm!

Looks idyllic! My ex-boyfriend’s mom had an amazing deviled egg recipe that included anchovy paste, but she would never give me the details.
Hi Jennifer! So nice to be in touch here and thank you again for following my blog! The deviled egg recipe I linked to came out well (good instructions for how to cook the eggs so that the yolks don’t turn green), but I found the proportions a little too weighted to the mayonnaise-y side. I’ve never liked the taste of mayonnaise (unless it’s homemade) but most people would probably say that recipe tastes fine. However, I did buy a cookbook in the Oberlin bookstore yesterday which contains a recipe for deviled eggs made with avocado instead of mayonnaise. I’m going to try that recipe next; I like the idea of the avocado and don’t care if my deviled eggs are green. Speaking of eggs, I’m off to see if “my” chickens haven laid any more for me….;-) xox -Joana
