Cartoon illustration demo - finished cartoon by Joana Miranda

Several of my readers have expressed interest in seeing longer drawing videos. So because I listen to and appreciate all of your feedback, I’ve created this longer cartoon illustration demo video. The high-speed video (filmed this afternoon over roughly a 10-minute span) shows my process from the inked drawing to the color finish. (By the way, in case you aren’t able to see it clearly, I did lay out faint pencil guidelines before I started inking.)

The drawing demo video…

And here’s the finished cartoon illustration!

Cartoon Illustration Demo - The finished cartoon

In case you’re wondering, the only thing I did post-filming was to darken the beret. That’s because when I initially shaded the beret with my Pentel water brush pen I accidentally used the wrong water brush pen containing the more diluted India ink. I also scanned the illustration so that you can see the colors better.

For this cartoon drawing I used the following materials:

  • Faber-Castell F pencil
  • Zebra disposable fine tip brush pen
  • Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils
  • Pentel water brush pens
  • Bristol board
