I’m delighted to announce that a collection of my humorous musical drawings has now been published in Japan. Back in the fall of 2018, I began work on a project for Nomura Research Institute. When NRI contracted me to create 12 illustrations for their publication, Financial Information Technology Focus, I was very excited. And, when I learned that they wanted me to create illustrations depicting little girls playing musical instruments, I felt like it was a match made in heaven.

Creating humorous musical drawings…

Is, of course, very much in my wheelhouse since I trained as a classical musician and have worked professionally for many years in orchestras. For me, the challenge of this particular assignment was less about the subject matter; it was more about the constraints of the space I could use. As you can see, below, I had to work within a narrow horizontally oriented banner area. And, I also needed to leave room for two different blocks of Japanese text.

Each illustrations for this project has touches of humor and whimsy…

And a sense of play (pun intended!)

Keeping this project secret for over a year…

Was also a challenge. However, now I’ve been given the go-ahead to share what I created. And I look forward to sharing the remaining nine illustrations with you over the next few months. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I loved creating them!

What’s next?

I’m currently working on another big multi-illustration project. Plus, I have several smaller custom illustration jobs going at the same time. But I do still have room in my schedule to take on more projects. If you’re interested in hiring me to create custom illustrations, editorial or character art, please contact me. I’d love to hear more about your project to see if we’d be a good fit.

P.S. If you love my music illustrations, you might enjoy seeing this percussion print over at my shop at Etsy.
