Funny ink and watercolor Siamese cat cartoon

If you’re chafing against having to be house bound these days, you’re not alone. After exhausting my mind (well, not really) drawing imaginary blue men and then imaginary green women, I decided to turn my attention today to more mundane things – like drawing furniture. Because blue men and green women need some place to live, after all! In the process, I inadvertently created MY illustrated life in quarantine in NYC.

My Illustrated Life in Quarantine in NYC

Welcome to our apartment. (Thank God I vacuumed!) As you can see in the top left portion of my sketchbook, when I started drawing today, I was drawing from life. Obviously, tsk tsk, the result was less than successful. Which quickly reminded me why I prefer to draw from my imagination. So I continued on…

Drawing From My Imagination

Moving from the center of the page, right, and then down across the middle, you’ll see:

  • Our black leather chair from Ikea
  • A stool
  • My office chair
  • Our dresser and my favorite purple rain boots
  • The toilet (toilet paper not pictured)
  • One of our dining room chairs
  • My everlasting (fake) Lucid candle with its real flame
  • One of my balcony pedestal pots

As you can see…

I put all the components together in the apartment scene in the bottom half of the sketchbook. Yes, our apartment really does look like that. Except, I added a little Siamese cat which, sadly, we do not have.

But…

If you come back tomorrow, you’ll get to see my imaginary cattery of cats!

P.S. For our evening entertainment (and as my reward for a disciplined day of illustrating and attending to my illustration business) we’re going to watch our new favorite show – Kitten Rescuers. How about you? How will you reward yourself for getting through another day in quarantine? Do you have any binge-worthy TV shows I should know about? I’d love to hear!

I’m on Season 4 of Better Call Saul. I’m excited to watch every episode. It’s a prequel to Breaking Bad, and very well done. It has some of the same characters as Breaking Bad. When I’m done with that, I have some season-or-other of Game of Thrones to watch. i’m way behind.

      Hi Helen,

We haven’t been able to get Season 4 of Better Call Saul yet (though we’ve watched the previous seasons.) We LOVED Breaking Bad. The premise to Better Call Saul is pretty neat, though I don’t think it’s as successful at BB. My mom is also watching Season 4 now and she says it’s boring. However, she’s often knitting when she watches TV so I’m not sure how much she’s actually understanding. 😉

We also got into watching Balthazar. It’s a detective/medical examiner whodunnit type of show which takes place in France. We liked Season 1. Season 2 is supposed to come out sometime soon, but so far it hasn’t. But, for the current climate of anxiety/worry/the-world-is-ending, I prefer Kitten Rescuers anyway.
