Since none of us are allowed to sit at cafes right now, I decided to create my own virtual cafe today. At the cafe of my dreams the weather is always mild and sunny, the birds chirp, and the Chai lattes are sweet without having added sugar. Yah, I know…dream on! Sitting at a cafe is always more fun with friends, so I invite you to pull up a chair and join me for a session of free-hand drawing at the cafe. (I promise you might even hear a bird or two!)

Free-Hand Drawing – At the Cafe:

After I finished the illustration above, I added a few pops of color with my Daniel Smith watercolors. Here’s the finished cartoon illustration:

Free hand drawing - At the Cafe by Joana Miranda

You might be wondering…

Why is she using such a tiny double-sided pencil for her illustrations? In this video, I explain why. Suffice to say that it’s a clever hack born of necessity in the current period of pandemic penny pinching.

P.S.

I just sent out my monthly newsletter yesterday. And it included some recent news and new illustrations. If you’re not receiving the newsletter and want to be added to the list, please let me know in the comment section below. The Joana Miranda Studio newsletter goes out 1x per month, never more. In addition to news, cartoons and illustrations, there are often seasonal coupons as well. (By the way, if you sign up here, you’ll receive a 15% off coupon good towards any greeting card or print in my shop at Etsy.)
