I’ve been working on a new illustration today in my Moleskine Notebook. The illustration is still very much in process, but I thought you might enjoy seeing this freehand ink drawing demo – which is a sneak peek of what’s to come!

You may be wondering, why so many little Frenchmen and monkeys?

Perhaps French men are more at the forefront of my mind these days because I’ve decided to use some of my pandemic free time to go back to studying French. (I’m also studying Spanish AND reading the news in my native Portuguese. What’s most likely is that I’ll get all three languages profoundly jumbled in my little pea brain. )

AND…I’ve always had a soft spot for monkeys. They’re intelligent, funny and amusing to watch.

I took this photo at the Sydney Zoo back when we were allowed to travel!

I used to dream of having a monkey as a pet, but the closest I ever got was having a pair of stuffed monkey toys. So maybe that explains the frequent appearance of monkeys in my illustrations!

Thank you, Jen! The music is from Zapsplat (which has a good library of sound effects as well as royalty-free music.) Sometimes I browse the sounds effects just to spur on the creative drawing juices, too.
