I’ve been refining my character art of late. Or, better put, I’ve been simplifying it! The Bird Brain and other doodles in this two-page Moleskine spread mostly represent my flights of fancy. (Though I admit that the Guilty Pleasures doodle is based on my new pandemic afternoon snack ritual.) Getting to slap quirky shades of watercolor onto these playful illustrations is the icing on the cake in the process.
Bird Brain and Other Doodles by Joana Miranda

I created the freehand doodles above with my beloved Noodler’s Ahab Flex Fountain pen. My ink of choice is De Atrementis Document Ink Grey. I prefer the grey to black, though as you’ll see from the video below, it’s sort of splitting hairs to tell a difference.
(Speaking of splitting hairs, I’m looking forward to getting mine cut tomorrow!)
Meanwhile…
I’m about to record my next Art Bag: Time Saving Tips and Tricks video. If there’s a drawing technique you’d like me to demo, or an art supply you’re curious to learn more about, just let me know in the comments below.
Here’s wishing you a very happy weekend.
Remember…
Weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.

well, I cannot tell the difference between the grey and the dark. Will I be able to tell the difference in the haircut??? But I loved the drawing. That’s you telling mr. S. that he needs to clean the bathroom, right?

Hi Mm,
Yes, the difference is ULTRA subtle. But I think I see it. (But then again, these days I can’t rely on my current prescription of contacts for the best eyesight.)
Can’t wait to SEE you SOON!!!!

I love the cat with the “Hi Ma!” Sign!!
Thank you, D!!! I always try to sneak in a test to see if my mom is paying attention. Hee-hee! I miss you and hope you’re doing well. Someday we’ll have a lunch date again…sigh.
