I never thought I’d be drawn to creating so much humorous cat art. But now that we have our very own fur baby providing daily inspiration, it’s become a thing for me. I find myself constantly studying Ziggy’s poses to see if I can simplify and cartoon-ify them.

One of my favorite of Ziggy’s “poses” is when he flops onto the floor on his back with his legs splayed and his front paws flopping in the air, pad side down. (He likes to do a version of this pose in my lap at night when we watch TV, as well.)
For now, this is my best approximation:

Are still a work in progress. Though the progress part, I suppose, is more my issue. Being awakened at 5:45 a.m. with a gentle paw to the face is charming; I just wish it happened at 7 a.m. These are what my mornings have looked like of late:

One of the best cartoon cats was created by Andre Franquin in his Gaston series. Franquin was a true master when it came to facial expressions and capturing motion in his work. His cartoons continue to be a source of inspiration for me.
Ah the joys of being the parent of a baby (kitten!)!!! You’ll miss the early mornings when he’s an old guy…
