L is for Llama - from my L is for Love and Other Illustrations Moleskine Alphabet Series

When you love what you do, every day feels like a holiday. Well, maybe not exactly. I’ve certainly had moments of brain fog during this pandemic, not to mention days where I’ve started off with great intentions but then realize at the end of the day that I haven’t accomplished any of the things I set out to do. Worse, even, is when I have an unproductive day, but then can’t even remember how I spent wasted my time! Fortunately, today was NOT one of those days. After several Zoom calls with family and friends – the best kind of Zoom calls, in my opinion – I felt reenergized and sat down to tackle another letter in my illustrated alphabet series. My L is for Love and Other Illustrations took the better part of the afternoon and evening to create. And now I’m delighted to be able to share it with you!

I’ll admit…

That sometimes when I work on my alphabet series, my imagination goes blank. And then I have to resort to Googling “words that start with…” to come up with more inspiration. (Remember when I mentioned the foggy brain?) Today was no different. But, since I don’t want to become any more reliant on the internet than I already am, I forced myself to jot down some L words before giving up and turning to Google. To my surprise, I discovered that there really aren’t that many interesting words that start with L. At 15 letters, leukaemogenesis IS interesting, but it doesn’t exactly lend itself well to an illustration. And, on the other end of the spectrum (the 3 letter L-words), I’m glad to say that I could probably now illustrate a “log” even while blindfolded.

In closing, here’s a thought…

You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.

Thank you, dearie! Andy said I created a “Me, Too” illustration (the Lewd one, I guess). 😉 But I think I covered the horrified reactions very well even while “uncovering” something else at the same time. xox – Joana
