When I started my blog back in 2007, I made a commitment (to myself) to post regularly. Over the years my posting frequency has varied, but on average I’ve usually posted at least 3x per week. Then fall 2021 happened. And all of sudden, I see that it’s been almost a month since my last post! Fortunately, even though I took a breather from posting here, I’ve stayed busy. And so now I’ve got lots of fun Joana Miranda Studio news to share with you.

In addition to continuing to create illustrations for my Instagram account and videos for my channel at YouTube, I also went back to a busy schedule of musical freelance work this fall. Naturally, when I’m doing a lot of musical gigs, I often feel inspired to create musician cartoons. The whimsical illustration below was inspired by one of my bassist colleagues.

When I’m not illustrating or performing…
I often unwind by baking. With the holidays fast approaching, I’ve upped my baking “games” again. These days I’m branching away from my reliance on almond flour to create cookies and muffins with oat or coconut flour. The coconut macaroons below may look fancy, but they are super easy to make.
I also make time to play games with…
Life has definitely gotten better since we got our cats. These days, Ollie has been taking an active role in “helping” me with my illustrations. You can see him in action below:
The approaching holiday season means…
That I’ll be running back and forth to Lincoln Center to play a LOT of Nutcracker shows. This mean less time for blogging, but probably a lot more time for subway sketches.
At the end of the day…
Being happily exhausted is my goal. And getting to wear both my illustration and musician hats certainly makes me happy and thankful!
