Today’s rendering, done with colored pencil and gouache on vellum paper, is the fifth and final art media variation on my gold and diamond brooch design (please see Days 120 through 123 for the previous variations:

Colored Pencil and Goauche Gold and Diamond Brooch Rendering on Vellum Paper by Joana Miranda

As a rendering, this is perhaps the most successful of the five, since I feel like I got closest here to realistically rendering the shadows and highlights (lesson learned – less is more!)  More practice with all the media, especially the ink and gouache, is necessary and I’ll certainly be putting in the time!  For those of you starting out rendering jewelry, my advice is to start with colored pencil and gouache on vellum, then move on to charcoal/gouache on art paper, watercolor and gouache, and finally, ink and gouache.

I welcome your feedback on this series of renderings.  I’d love to hear which version you thought brought the brooch best to life, and why.

I like Day 122 the best……I think the lustrous texture of the gold metal appeals to me. I dunno, it seems the most tasty.

    • Thanks, Helen!

You’ve obviously got good taste and a good eye:-) That one is winning out over the others…

(And I like your “tasty” description, too!)

I like Day 122 the best because the diamonds really pop out the most in that one, somehow. Maybe I’m drawn to watercolor, too…that was an interesting project! Looking forward to more 🙂

    • Hi Erin,

Thanks for your feedback! That one does seem to be the most popular. I’m fascinated because I didn’t feel like my rendering technique in that one was as good as it could have been. But I do love working with watercolor….
      🙂 Joana
