What’s not to love about spring? The scent of the flowering trees is both heady and gentle. And the new shoots of green sprouting all around look fresh and full of promise. I certainly had my love for the season foremost in my mind when I created this new spring note card!

Want a behind-the-scenes look?

Here’s how I drew the art for my new spring note card:

(As you can see, my Inhouse Editor, Ziggy, gave a “paws up” when I was done, too!)

Meanwhile…

Today’s drawing video was inspired by a piece of paper. Yes, using a very small scrap of leftover watercolor paper was what gave me the idea for the drawing:

In case you’re wondering, “Sardinhas” is the Portuguese word for sardines. I’m not so much a fan of sardines, though I AM a big fan of bacalhau, or, salt cod. Recently, I’ve even found tins of bacalhau at my local Whole Foods! (Though my husband turns up his nose at me when I crack one open. And this from a man who adores tuna fish?! Sheesh!)

It’s funny, but I actually drew them as mer-men! But at that scale it’s hard to see, I guess. Or, I suppose they could be mermaids with pixie haircuts? Hee-hee! xox – J

      Hi Helen,

The sardines even surprised me! 🙂 Now I’m headed out to the balcony with my Moleskine notebook hoping for inspiration (and some sun.)
